What a wonderful day—and week—it has been across our school community. Our celebrations have been filled with creativity, imagination, reading joy, and enrichment opportunities that we know our children will remember for a long time.

A Fun-Filled World Book Day for All Year Groups

This year’s World Book Day at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School in Crook has been one to remember! Pupils across the school took part in a wide variety of activities designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Our day included:

  • Live author events
  • Story readings streamed by real authors
  • Book‑themed scavenger hunts
  • Creative crafts and character‑themed activities
  • Plenty of cosy, shared reading time

The school was also filled with fantastic character tubes, skilfully created at home and brought in by pupils. These will be judged tomorrow by our wonderful Reading Squad. We were blown away by the effort and imagination the children put into their designs.

A big well done to everyone who joined in with our Dress as a Word Day—your thoughtful choices sparked so many interesting conversations in classrooms and corridors all morning.

Early Years Enjoy Magical Story Moments

Our Early Years children looked brilliant in their World Book Day outfits and had a truly special day of story experiences. They enjoyed:

  • Interactive stories on the whiteboard
  • Stories read aloud by adults
  • Sharing books and reading together
  • Listening to a story read by a superstar reader from their class

It was a joy to see our youngest children so engaged, enthusiastic, and proud to share their love of books.

A Week Full of Enrichment

Dear parents, carers, and families of St Cuthbert’s—What a busy and inspiring week it has been!

Alongside World Book Day, pupils also enjoyed Graham’s BOOMwhacker workshops, which filled school with rhythm, teamwork and musical excitement. These enrichment opportunities help bring learning to life and create memories we hope stay with our children for years to come.

A huge congratulations to this week’s ASPIRE Award winners. Your achievements continue to make us smile—we are so proud of each and every one of you.

Thank You to Our Work Experience Students

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our work experience students—Charlie, Christian and Harry. Your initiative, positivity, teamwork and willingness to help in every situation have been hugely appreciated. We wish you all the very best in the next steps of your education.
